What it takes to wake a generation

I was not in math class, nor was i asleep, and i certainly wasn't getting ice cream or renting a movie. I guess you could say it was a typical day at the office as i stood aboard the US Navy's CVN-65 USS ENTERPRISE, an aircraft carrier which at the time was just off the shore of Pakistan. little did i know within 24 hours we would begin a bombing mission in Afghanistan unlike anything my military instructors had told me about, and said i would never see in my lifetime.

what it takes to wake a generation is a question that brought to mind September 11th 2001. You have to understand that it's not that i don't believe any generation can't wake up, it's just that i remembered pearl harbor, the USS Cole, the marine corps barracks in Lebanon, and the quote "those whom do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."
as a nation we have come a long way as each generation is unsatisfied with the previous generations accomplishments, yet simply improves upon them. now as we sit here in the 21st century farther along than we could've hoped for in technology and science, we still remain in the dark ages when it comes to the bigger problems we have before us.
Education, disease, and major conflict worldwide are among the frontrunner's of things our generation needs to wake up to and begin sorting out. I don't think the next generation will be able to play catch up from this point on. I sincerely hope they don't need to.
