I used to manage a tanning salon. I started working there when i was 17, right before my 18th birthday. I have been tanning since i was about 15 years old, in fact most of the girls that came to my salon were around the age of 15. I have taken a class about the positive and negative affects of tanning. Tanning now is so much better for you now then it was 15 years ago. It is now safer and the UV that we use now is very close to the sunlight. The equipment is now safer and also the salons are now cleaner. There are risks, and they are posted in the salons. If you are under the age of 18 your parent has to be present and sign a tanning waiver stating that they are okay with their child tanning. If the parent signs the form, they can also say how many sessions they are permitting. So if the parent says it is okay, then it is now of anybody else's business! If you do not want your child to tan, then do not sign the form. It is as easy as that. I do believe that as a parent it is your responsibility to talk to your child about the safest ways to tan. They should now what types of lotion are good for them to use and also not to start out with to many minutes to soon. Restrictions are getting worse by the minute. It makes you wonder what they are going to restrict next?
