In addition to being a direct violation of the first amendment, there is the fact that government imposed "fairness" is rarely if ever fair. For one thing there is always the guarantee that talk show hosts that will do whatever is neccesary to prevent ideas they disagree with from being heard on their show, will, if forced to present both sides of an argument, more than likely pick someone from the side they disagree with that will make the idea sound as ridiculous or crazy as possible while pretending to show respect for that person. Often I wonder if the person on a particular side of the debate actually believes what they are saying or if they are merely parodying their side of the debate simply to make it seem as though the host is doing his or her best to be fair to both sides even though the radicals on the side they disagree with just happen to be insane. Rush Limbaugh and John Stewart are both very good at that. It isn't just the conservatives that are hurt by this it is everybody. You can't force fairness on people. The courts can never make things fair to both parties so they just have to do theur best to find a solution that brings the situation closest to justice, unless they actually get a good judge who deides it is a matter that should not have been in theur courtroom in the first place and dismisses the case or a bad judge that sides with whoever has the most money, such as with slumlords. Basically fairness does not come from the government. That is all that neds to be said on this issue, although I do agree with the other writer who said that. Any time fairness is mentioned by Hillary Clinton or Feingold it means your wallet and liberty are in jeopardy. I paraphrased it a bit but it was the same idea. I don't expect my article to beat hers but I had to say something on the issue.
