I believe that schools should be more nurturing because students need a place where they can feel loved. There is too much violence on television, at home, and even more now at schools. If schools had been more nurturing to begin with, there would not be stress among students, or even high drop out rates. Students need to feel and know that there is someone there who cares, even if they mess up.
With the "No Child Left Behind Act," students are not having an opportunity to grasp concepts, and as a result are being left behind. The need for competition among schools in scoring high on tests is creating an environment of stress, strain, and medical problems for all involved.
School has become a race for the swift. Students are realizing that perhaps they are better off starting out in the world without an education because there is not much difference from being out there than it is to being in school. There was a time when education was fun, interesting, and involved; now not even teachers have the time to sit and nurture a child to bring him or her up to where the others are. Instead, teachers have to make sure that a concept gets taught before a certain period of time.
