While a rainy day can be slow and boring for children of all ages, there are many fun ways to keep those rainy day blues away.
This time of year can be especially dreary for kids. School has just started, the leaves are changing, cooler air is starting to settle in and their summer vacation has disappeared in the blink of an eye! It's important to keep spirits up, especially when rain darkens the day. Here are a few fun and easy activities any parent can do with children of all ages.
5.) Play hide and seek. If you're child isn't afraid of the dark, try playing with the lights out for added fun - but limit play to one floor of the home for safety.
4.)Board games can be fun and entertaining for all ages. There are countless games to choose from, so pick one - or a couple - you can't go wrong!
3.)With the holidays just around the corner, a rainy day may just be the remedy for your decorating procrastination. Decorating takes up a lot of time and energy when it's done alone and may seem like a chore. When partnered with an eager child, it can quickly become fun and even entertaining - and you're child will be proud to have been a part of such a huge holiday tradition.
2.) When things start to wind down and you're both getting just a little tired, the perfect option is to watch a movie together. To make things exciting, watch a new movie that none of you have seen yet. Make sure that the film is appropriate for all children involved. You don't want to leave anyone out!
1.) The best way to pass a rainy day is catch up on some sleep. After a day full of activities and fun, your child will probably not object to a nice, cozy nap. Depending on the age of your child, you may even have a sleep partner for a few hours. So not only do you get to catch up on some sleep, you get to spend some quality time with your child.
You never have to wait for a rainy day to spend a day playing with your child. Keep in mind, it's not always the things you do that are important to your child - it's the time spent together that they'll cherish and remember for years to come.
