Healing power

"I hear you offer prayers for others," she said. I confirmed that I did and we made arrangements to meet. It was for her mother who had been diagnosed with cancer. They were Native American and I debated if I should take sage to the ceremony or not. At the last moment I decided to leave it in the car and do the ceremony without it.

Her mother was in her 60's. She was a gentle loving soul but her body was frail. Her daughter informed me that her mother had lost her appetite and they were concerned about her loss of weight. After some casual conversation I began.

I used frankincense oil on her feet. It was to honor her and to thank the spirits for the opportunity they had provided for me. I called in the angels and asked the healing masters to surround us with their healing power. I then called upon the name of Jesus and claimed the power that he offered by his own words. "Whosoever shall call upon my name shall be healed." My hands instinctively moved to different areas of her body. But they were drawn to the area of her lungs. I called upon her ancestors to join us. As I moved to her back she began to cough.

The healing took about 45 minutes. I closed the ceremony and thanked all who had gathered.

Her daughter asked me what kind of oil I had used. I offered her the bottle of frankincense oil. As she sniffed the bottle, she said, "That's not what I smelled." I looked at her puzzled. She passed the bottle to another sister and then to a third sister. They all agreed that it was not the smell that filled the room as I prayed. Finally one explained. "We smelled sage. Burning sage. It came through the window." One of them even went to the window but there was nothing there. They all agreed they had smelled it 3 times. When I said, "But I am not using sage," they all laughed. "It's a sign," they said. "That the old ones are honoring you and joining in the ceremony." I was humbled.

As I said goodbye to the mother I noticed she was still coughing. I explained it would continue for a few days. She simply nodded. One of the sisters came forward and said, "The doctor said she needed to cough. They gave her medicine to help her cough but it didn't work." Each time the mother coughed the sisters smiled. The daughter then told me that the cancer was in her mother's lungs. They wanted her to cough to help clear the lungs as she was scheduled for surgery and they were concerned about the congestion that clogged her lungs.

I turned to leave and one of the sisters reached out to me. "You have taught me a lot," she said. "I have heard about the power of women's prayers. You just proved it. We honor those who the elders honor. The sage proved they recognize you." It was I who was then speechless.

I returned to my car. Humbled by the experience. I looked down and saw the sage. I now understood why I was compelled to leave it. I thanked the elders for honoring me.

One of the daughters gave me updates as the mother progressed. Her appetite returned and she gained back some of the weight she had lost. She also continued to cough and clear her lungs. She grew stronger and the surgery went well. Her mother continues to live today and enrich the lives of those she knows and loves. But I am the one who feels blessed.
