The educational toy market has boomed!

This is not a statement made lightly, almost every toy manufacturing company is producing an educational toy or more to the point a range of educational toys.

Before we discover what these toys are and where we get them from we need to discover the why?

Why are educational toys for children so in demand?

It is very easy, and the answer does not lie with the children but with the parents.

We all want to provide for our children, a future in which they can compete successfully. This is why educational toys range from developing not only mind and body, physically and mentally but also developing softer skills like nurturing and rhythm.

Any on-line purchasing website will provide a long list of educational toys and you as the parent will be required to select from this extensive list a range of toys that you think will aid the development of your child/ children.

So where do you start? I believe the best place to start is with a book. For younger children a book made of cotton or another soft fabric, then books with board and pop-ups and finally lots of BIG words and fancy coloured pictures.

Books enable us as parents to pin-point where the interests of our children lie. This will allow you to properly assess the area's in which your child may not only be interested but also be talented.

There are also a number of books that have educational characters that have been brought to life in cartoons and these help children to actively associate with a character. Programmes containing other children are also effective in assisting association.

While all television should be restricted to a specific amount of time and content should be reviewed, we cannot deny the influence of cartoons/ TV on our children. So embrace it by having a large selection of DVD's to choose from. These can also provide some much needed time-out' for a busy mom and dad.

Music of all sorts helps children to learn rythem and rhyme, these skills assist them all through their lives and are very inportant for relating to exactly where they fit in the scheme of things, musical activities also teach children to be confident about themselves.

To help develop your child physically the best toy to purchase is a ball, any shape, any size, any colour, any game is always more effective when mom or dad has taken a keen interest in playing with them. Balls roll and bounce and these simple actions can make your child laugh and be happy.

You will notice that none of these activities mentioned above are expensive, and you don't need to purchase "specialised" educational toys to ensure your childrens play time, contributes to their learning.

The idea of educational toys in preparing your children for the challenges of the world is not to make them hate' playing if anything, any learning experience is more rewarding and far more effective when combined with the love and nurturing all children need, this loving route to education will give your children feel good memories of learning and encourage them to learn more and push themselves to learn more, because they then feel good about themselves
