Essays: Emotions

Guys, it's always about guys. What they want, need, think about, why they act the way that they do. I mean come on girls can't we find anything else remotely interesting to talk about? Not really. Nevertheless, the topic today is about speaking out. Letting whatever is bothering you out of your system. Except this article is more for, of course, the guys.

Alright, I have a friend. I call him pretty often just to see how he is and we chat and have a good time. Well the past few times we've talked he seems to be upset. Now, (like a good friend) I ask what is wrong and what is going on. He answers with a simple "nothing, you don't want to know." Now it would appear to me that if I wanted to know I would ask. I did ask. So therefore, I want to know (funny how that works, huh).

Anyway, He still doesn't open up. This is kind of upsetting me now because he's not telling me what is putting him in such a bad mood. He just continues to be gloomy and keep everything locked up. Get real guys; let's ease off the ego and testosterone a little bit here, okay? Seriously, if a friend (girl) wants to talk she's going to listen. No doubt about it. (We're girls!) We won't make fun of you, mock you, or just completely and utterly ignore you. We're there because we want to be and we want to know what's bothering you. So lighten up.

Let it all out! It's not that difficult to let go of your "manliness" for just a short period of time. You'll find that it feels just as good as when girls describe it. Don't be shallow about it either. Be brave. You know how they say real men LIKE pink and grown men DO cry and all sorts of other similar phrases. It's true. Real men live up to what their feeling and open up more than you would think. So be a man', suck it up, and let down your guard every once in a while because believe it or not, you DO need help sometimes. Now this doesn't mean that all the guys should start wearing pink and balling every time they watch a movie, but it just means that a man can express his feelings and feel secure at the same time. Sounds like a challenge, I know. But I thought that guys liked a challenge. Am I right?

Furthermore, just to humor me, you could at least try to take the time to really think about this. How would you (girls) react if this were how a friend (guy) was acting? You would want to find out what's bothering them, right? The real question is will they ever tell you?' Maybe. A couple of guys answered a question that I asked. "If something was ever bothering you, would you open up and talk about it with a friend who was a girl or would you keep it locked up inside?" They answered that they would start out locking it up but they'd eventually talk about it because it helps get it off their chest and it's good for them in the long run. I happen to agree.

Additionally, I guess I did attack this topic too hastily and I should have given more thought to it. I admit that I made the mistake in not really analyzing what would be happening in the guy's mind before hand. Everyone needs time to think things over in their head and figure out what they need to do before they act and try to fix the situation. I apologize.

So, I guess I'll give you guys a break in saying that you can always have time in thinking problems over by yourselves and THEN consulting a friend. Just remember not to exclude the last suggestion cause you never know, it may actually help (imagine that)! Well, I think that I've caused enough damage for one column today! Don't worry though; I'll be back with another.
