When the weather turns brisk and the snow starts whitening the ground there is no better place than New York to warm you up into the holiday seasons.
So pack up you warm sweaters and bring along comfortable walking shoes as this is the place to be to in order to spend an unforgettable winter wonderland season. Oh,and don't forget your hat, scarf and gloves to keep yourself warm and jolly!
When winter touches New York the whole city seems to magically transform and suddenly you are immersed in Merry Christmas carols and holiday window shopping displays that are simply candy for your eyes.
A good window display tour can be at least two miles long and take about one to two hours depending on your pace and your interest level. The walking can be done almost effortlessly at a good leisure level as long as you have good comfortable water proof shoes and have the ability to withstand crowds. If the weather is pretty cold you can stop at various coffee shops and sip on a cup of great cappuccino or smoky hot chocolate.
You do not want to miss the spectacular window displays organized by Macy's and Bloomingdales which are typically unveiled in mid November. Each year these window displays change themes and they are granted to leave you amazed or more specifically open mouthed. Lord and Taylor also provide astonishing displays you definitely do not want to miss.
If you are not much into shopping then New York has much more to offer.
You do not want to miss the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree lighting ritual. The tree is placed between the 42nd and 30th Street and can be easily located since it is a Norway Spruce over 65 feet tall. This great ceremony is enhanced by various musical performances and professional ice skaters.
If you would rather be the ice-skater star, Rockefeller ice rings are open usually from Columbus day through April and can accommodate up to one hundred fifty skaters at a time. You can rent the skates and decide for yourself how much time you want to spend in the ring.
The Big Apple is also known for its many famous spectacles. The Radio City Christmas shows featuring the Rockettes are known world wide as well as the Nutcracker performed at the New York City Ballet.
When your taste buds are ready to party New York has definitely what it takes to fit different tastes and different budgets. Wherever you go you will find a warm cozy spot to relax and enjoy some good food in a nice holiday setting.
Christmas in New York however is much more than just lights and smells, Christmas can almost be defined as a feeling of warmth and joy that seems to seep into everybody's hearts.
It is in the smiles and the laughs of the visitors and the inhabitants that you can find the secret of genuine happiness and you can easily spread it around in what is known as the great "Christmas Spirit"....
