The most important thing a Manager needs to obtain his/her objectives and goals is to gain the RESPECT of the employees. If employees respects the Manager, they have confidence that the Manager will perform in a professional manner and will in turn treat them all with respect.

Respect will bring more results than friendship. Friendship is important if it can be enjoyed without showing any form of favoritism to specific individuals.

When employees perform their duties in the best manner possible they are not only exhibiting respect for their Manager, but for themselves as well. Proper recognition for a job well done should be the norm rather than the exception.

Respect allows everyone to be friendly with one another. It assures promotions and pay increases are achieved by performance, instead of who plays up to the boss the most.

As the respect grows, friendships follow and everyone feels more at ease and can better perform their jobs and be proud of the organization.

Many times new Managers are brought into an organization to eliminate cliques or ill feelings among the emloyees. These Managers usually have a learning curve they must endure in order to be able to function at their best. How they approach the employees will determine how quickly respect is gained.
