Organic fences as an option for your garden

Three of the more common plants to use in making an organic fence for your garden include bamboo, evergreen trees, and hedges. These are three of the ore common. One could use any type of vine or flower group that offers the height and thickness desired at your own space.

Evergreen trees are a common variety used to build a barrier or fence around a garden or lawn. These trees can simply be placed in a position that as the tree grows the branches will come together and overlap closing the space between in. These trees stay green year round and provide some color even on the cold winter days.

The major drawback to evergreen trees however is the cost. If you want a somewhat instant fence the cost of large trees would be very expensive. You will more likely than not have to start with smaller trees and watch your fence enclose your garden over a few years.

Hedges are similar to evergreens in that they will provide color year round and they also take time to grow to a mature height. In difference to evergreen trees, though, hedges must be trimmed on a regular basis and contoured to the shape you want them to take. This would be somewhat more labor intensive than evergreen trees. It seems somewhat easier to incorporate flowers or vegetables into a background of hedges than into a backdrop of evergreen trees.

If your garden has a water fall, and or a pond with some exotic plants then you may want to consider bamboo.Bamboo grows very quickly and provides a very dense fence. It is very appealing to sight. I can say this as this is what I have in my garden. It can be quite expensive to buy depending on how much you need. However if you know someone who lives near a river you may get it a little cheaper! In order to keep bamboos standing it must be trimmed back once a year. Though very durable bamboo can fall over. After periods of rain or heavy wind you must check it and make sure the stalks are still standing.

With the above examples of an organic fence one can go a step farther and plant something like rhododendrons in an area around the interior perimeter of the fence. Any thing you like really. The dense backdrop provided by the above examples provide a perfect background for flowering bushes and vines.

What ever you choose you will be happy with an organic fence to serve as your backdrop. One can never forget though that wood is an organic material and it is possible to get rough cut wood and incorporate it into the backdrop as well.
