Tips for pricing your handmade crafts

One of the hardest things about selling handmade crafts is setting the right price. If you set your price too low chances are you won't make money from your crafts.

Although you may not become a millionaire selling handmade crafts you still want to make some profit. When pricing your item consider the cost of your materials. Make sure that you are getting materials for the best price that you can. Look into buying your materials whole sale as this will be the lowest price since you will not be dealing with retail mark ups.

The next thing to consider in your pricing is the amount of time you spent making your craft. Your time is valuable and chances are if someone called you and asked you to sew something for them you would charge them for your time. Making crafts should be no different.

If you sell handmade crafts you may do so at a craft fair or on-line. Selling through these methods cost money. Craft fairs can run anywhere from $40 on up depending on the fair. If your items are priced too low you may find that at the end of the day you didn't make enough to cover your fee for the fair. Remember the people who go to craft fairs want to spend money on your crafts. This is your chance to make some money.

If you sell on-line you will be spending money on listing fees. When selling on-line your pricing says a lot about the quality of your work. Look at what similar items are selling for. Use this as a guide for pricing as well. If you are willing to sell your items for less than they should be worth then people will think that your items are low quality. Set your prices higher and people will know that your work is quality.

Business may seem slow when you first get started but don't get frustrated. It takes time to build a customer base. Keep looking for new, creative venues to sell your crafts and eventually you will find something that fits so that you can sell your items at a fair price and make money.
