Fitness experts and vegetarians alike espouse the benefits of soy protein. As part of a complete healthy diet, proteins are important-containing amino acids, the building blocks of life. As proteins go, soy is tops. Here's why.
Soy protein is recognized as the closest substitute to proteins found in meat, containing all the essential amino acids. There are many foods containing soy protein, such as soy milk, tofu, soy cheese, and powdered supplements. As a protein supplement, soy boasts a top nutritional profile being low in fat and it does not contain any cholesterol. In fact, one of the top benefits of soy protein is its linkage to lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol. Consuming 25grams per day can reduce LDL up to 10%, which is a huge reduction when looking at heart disease risk factors. This finding has been replicated by numerous studies.
Additional soy protein benefits under consideration surround the isoflavones and phytochemicals contained in soy. These are believed to be beneficial at warding off cancer and possibly osteoporosis. These components possibly fight free-radical damage which cause cancer; and prevent bone loss which leads to osteoporosis. Studies are still being conducted to firm up early evidence of these claims, but the overwhelming information on soy protein is that it's a great protein source for those seeking a healthy diet.
