Memoirs: Favorite alcoholic beverages

by John Hoty

Created on: October 01, 2007

Ah, the list that keeps on growing one Happy Hour at a time. To ascribe - or prescribe, really - our favorite alcoholic beverages is really no different a list than citing our favorite movies: it's all about plot (base liquor), a solid cast (mixers), and whether or not we'll enjoy ourselves drinking it for the next 2 hours, as well as recommend it to our friends. No doubt we're all picky about our cocktails, but this is a list as varied and versatile as the bartenders who mix them and the partiers who keep them famous. Cheers!

The Sea Breeze: a classic concoction that blends Vodka with Cranberry and Grapefruit juices, served on the rocks. For best results, always request GOOD vodka - Grey Goose (the best), Zyr (smoooooth), Ketel One (classy), or Absolut (old reliable). What this drink says about you: calm, collected, easy-going and unpretentious.

The Perfect Margarita: the following ingredients are imperative if you order this drink by name - Patron Silver Tequila, Grandmarnier, Sour Mix, a splash of OJ, Rose's Lime Juice and a salt rimmed glass. Patron Silver has taken the spirit world by storm and there is no finer, tastier tequila on the market right now; and the Grandmarnier is an essential layer to perfecting this revered Mexican import. Frozen or on the rocks, it's just perfect. What this drink says about you: daring, young-at-heart; and no stranger to a good time.

The Black & Tan: every Guinness drinker in the world is familiar with this tall dark and handsome bruiser. Poured with master marksmanship, this is merely two of the finest beers in the world layered one atop the other. Harp Lager first, then Guinness Stout on top, rationed with a bar spoon. What you get is two solid layers of Emerald Isle bliss that will have you kissing more than just the Blarney Stone. Fun to mix, fun to drink, this timeless tavern gem is a must-try. What this drink says about you: brazen, inspired and ready to dance the jig.

The Jager Bomb: essentially, this is just a large, potent shot... but considering its contents, after effects and popularity, it's a shoe-in for this list. Snap open a can of Red Bull energy drink and pour AT LEAST half of it into a glass, then drop in a full shot of Jagermeister - and it's down the hatch! This crowd pleaser and Spring Break favorite not only does its part helping you last through the night (way on until morning) but it tastes like candy. What this drink says about you: ready, willing, horny and able.

The Mojito: this is a new addition
