What a complex question! Importing, "safe," "affordable," "prescription medications" and "other nations" all have qualifiers that alter the intent and meaning of the question. By import do we mean for personal use or for distribution? How safe do the medications need to be and who will monitor safety? Affordable-do we mean less expensive than brand name or generic medications offered here in America? But the basic question is this: who is in charge of my life-me or the government?

If I am in charge of my life, and I am, then the government has no business telling me what or where I should buy whatever I please. I must understand that when I buy medicines from Canada I am (usually) buying American-made drugs at a discount. If I buy from some other country, I may be buying altered medication or even milk powder dressed up as Viagra! The risk ought to be mine to take. If the drug companies were truly concerned about my safety and welfare, they would offer their medications to Americans at the same price the Canadians pay. Then they would be "safe" and "affordable."

If I am importing medications cheaply for resale here in the US, then of course I want my government to assure that the medications I buy are full strength and safe. The only reason I can see that we are no longer allowed to exercise the hard-fought-for freedoms of choice in this country is that the (prescription) drug cartels have created an economic monopoly and are in cahoots with their political cronies who have been bought and paid for with this "drug money."

If it gets much more ridiculous, I may have to start pouring Celebrex and Viagra into Boston Harbor! Hope no one fines me for littering-or poisoning the fish!
