I quit smoking one month ago today. To tell you the truth I miss it so much. It takes everything within my inner power not to run to the store to purchase just one more pack of cigarettes.
Every time I walk by a smoker and smell that aroma of his cigarette I truly desire one. But at the same time I can now run with my two dogs and not cough and heave breathlessly. My home smells so much better since I butted out that last tobacco stick. Food is much more appealing to my taste buds and yes I have gained a few pounds but that is something I will just have to deal with at a later date. Right now I don't care that my pants are getting a bit snug.
When I awake in the morning I still go to grab for that pack of addictive nicotine except now I grab for the "Nicorette" gum instead.
The main reason that I decided to quit was the last two months as a smoker I would cough so much I would vomit. This only happened in the mornings but I hate vomiting so much that I decided that's enough of this I have to stop.
I started smoking at the young age of twelve and smoked till I was forty-nine. Wow thats thirty-seven years. I pray that my lungs will somehow recover from what I have put them through for most of my life.
I am still taking it one day at a time. I cannot promise myself or others that I will never smoke again, and do not yet consider myself a non-smoker. I think that this is due to the fact that I still crave, desire, and love the smell.
