Child molesters are the absolute lowest form of life on earth. Jail does not seen to be an effective deterrent for them. I don't think that the death penalty should be used for these offenders, because in many cases they to were molested as children themselves. This is a psychological illness that they have. There are other methods that could be used to punish them. Chemical castration, or medical castration are two that should be used more often than they are now. But what about female offenders? Incarceration in a mental facility for a time that is long enough for them to receive counseling and medication and supervision. In cases that doctors believe the offender would likely molest again, they should not be released.

When a child is molested it leaves marks on that child's life from that point on. It will be difficult for them to live normal lives. Many victims find it hard if not impossible to ever have lasting relationships. Many go on to become offenders themselves. Some will become depressed to the point they may attempt or even commit suicide. When the actions of a person leave those kind of marks on someone's life, they should not be allowed to live in society. They certainly should not be allowed to just blend in and go on with their lives. There has to be an effective way of dealing with this crime.

The sex offenders registry is a great tool for tracking these offenders. I am glad to see law enforcement utilizing this tool more often. The law restricts where they can live and where they can work. So I believe that we as a society are doing all that we can. The laws need to be changed to allow the courts to order offenders to undergo the castration process or face life in a mental institution. This may seem harsh to some but to those that have fallen victim to the offenders I am sure that they would feel safer knowing that this person no longer had the ability to molest.
