It is important not to neglect the emotional and social needs of either animal. Both will need to be assured of your love and affection. It is important that neither feels neglected due to the presence of the other. In this way, pets are a lot like children who can feel overshadowed by the introduction of a new family member. Don't forget the important role your original animal plays in your family dynamics and include him in the day to day living as you would have before your new pet was introduced.
