Created on: October 01, 2007

Cape Cod, Massachusetts offers some of the best salt water fishing in the world.

The best time for saltwater fishing in Cape Cod is anytime, depending on what you hope to catch. Perch, trout, pike, and bass are readily available in the winter months, usually from December to February. When the water temperatures start to warm in March, the Yellow and White Perch begin to spawn, making these types of fish easy to catch. Trout and salmon are also readily available starting in March. By June Stripers can easily be found in the Sound, Bay, and Atlantic. Fluke are also spotted in the Sound, while Bluefish can be found in the upper Cape rips. You may even get lucky enough to come across the Bonito, or a few sharks. Some fishermen have been lucky enough to catch blue sharks, or large brown sharks over two hundred pounds.

The summer season, especially around July is the best time for saltwater fishing in Cape Cod. Besides the sharks and Bluefish, there are several other types of fish readily available. Stripers occasionally turn up, and sand eels are often spotted. The most prevalent type of fish found during the summer is bass. The stripers and bonito increase during August, as does the Albacore. And if you can wait until the fall, around September or October, you'll find the fish have doubled, or even tripled in size.

Finding a charter company can be pretty simple. Start by contacting the Cape Cod Charter Association for any questions you may have. They can point you in the right direction of companies that fit your needs. Most companies offer packages starting at $400. You may also want to try Cape Cod Charters. They offer a half-day, four hour charter for $400, and a full day, seven hour charter for $600. They supply all the bait and tackle. Cape Cod Charters are also welcoming of kids.

Saltwater fishing in Cape Cod, Massachusetts is like nothing else you've ever experienced. The area has a large and diverse fish population, and companies that can teach you the ropes.
