Parental control software sits on your computer between a browser and the internet. It's something like a firewall -no dta can be sent to and from the internet by the browser without it first check by the software
There are three ways by which parental control software block site or the other content
1. They check requested URLs against a list of the blocked sites in their repository, which is automatically updated (like antivirus updates).
2. The software checks the text on the site for banned words.if it finds any such words.it blocks the site's content.if not ,it moves on the next step.
3. The software then checks the image on the site .Using aspecial alogorithm.it determines whether an image contains too much "skin colour",block it.
if the site that being requested fails test 1 and 2 you get the error page .If the site passes test1 and test2 but some image fail test3 the site gets rendered without the possibly offensive images
you need to remember that these software are still not perfect and chances are that some cleverly disguised adult content might get through.
