The longest poem in the world

The World That Sold Us Out

Welcome to our world my son
Hear the sound of the bomb and gun
Screams of violence and death
Innocents die, the guilty are left

Walk with me through man's destruction
See the result of greed and corruption
Feel the weight of the men in power
Their thrones set upon an ivory tower

Listen to their voice sincere
Words that try to calm your fears
Words that seem to effectively lead
Come from a heart blackened by greed

This is the land we came to know
Seeds of futility, all that were sown
Desperate sounds from every voice
Lost the will to sing and rejoice

Our politicians line their own purse
Watch absently as we depart in a hearse
Their only concern is less for them to spend
While awaiting the birth of a new life to end

We work to live, no time for play
Taxes, as sure as night follows day
Payment is due for us to breathe
Air is free, so they want us to believe

Hope is a myth to appease the masses
Reality is shown in society's classes
Dreams are made to be easily broken
By the words they prepare, so readily spoken

My son, can you see the truth in these eyes?
Self glorification is the ultimate prize
These people will lead by their own example
Will entice you with promises, their perfect disciple

Do what they say, not what they do
Else they will soon be closely watching you
A threat to their power, you will feel their wrath
The moment you step onto their chosen path

Give them an inch and they'll take a mile
With a pitying look and an insincere smile
Their charm and charisma will fool for so long
Then publicly they will deny any wrong

Our equals will realize that they were duped
By how low our leader was prepared to stoop
To hang onto the power he stole from our hand
That he used so recklessly to govern this land

One after another they raise their ugly heads
While restless souls lie awake in their beds
Time and again we see the same signs
Follow the footprints as they cross the same lines

No matter who stands up to be counted last
Will always be ready to continue what's passed
More and more people will voice their concerns
From past mistakes the people soon learn

Until the time that we see the change
We will all be the targets on the shooting range
Wait for the time when it's our turn to face
The politicians in their election race

Aim for our hearts with their own agenda
Sell our souls to the money lender
Take what we earn with our sweat and graft
They rob us blind with a stifled laugh

Watch as the world pulls itself apart
Hear the breaking of society's heart
Money is power, the loudest shout
Welcome to the world that sold us out
