Commentary: Torture

In conjunction with the suspension of the writ of Habeas Corpus and redefining the DCEICPVW or "The Geneva Convention", the executive branch has an unchecked and ungodly amount of authority and power to do as he pleases. I think if nothing else it is imperative for the reader to remember and understand the last three letters of that title. Protection for the Victims of War.

Without these two fundamental protections everyone is vulnerable to being held, indefinitely if need be, and tortured or even murdered. That may seem unlikely to you dear reader but consider just 57 years ago when McCarthyism sprung up. Just one compelling and (in his own mind at least) patriotic person could set off a chain reaction more violent and paranoid then anything a terrorist could ever have hoped to achieve. It would be the greatest economic and political disaster ever if it happened while the man in charge (not to mention his mental capacity)commands the most executive authority in 147 years. It is utterly within the realm of plausibility that the average Joe in the homeland would become a defenseless "Victim of War".

The sad thing is the public isn't doing anything about this. We have a man "sent by god" (it was in the Times) who can run his own large scale Salem witch trial unhindered and it seems no one is saying anything about it. By that I mean that a search of "habeas corpus suspended?" brought back 533k hits. I type in "Anna Nicole" and I get 7 million hits. Our freedoms have been removed but we care more about a dead rich woman? I don't scare easy but the combination of those things gives me chills. Power corrupts and someone with unchecked power is going to do very bad things (he already has). And a corrupted person with enormous power who we are ignoring? Where am I again? Is this the Twilight Zone?

A perfect example of how he has misused these special powers already- Habeas Corpus which is to be suspended only during times of insurrection, civil war, and invasion- are the secret prisons like Guantanamo Bay or the dozens of others (I actually don't know how many there are... being secret prisons and all). There have been many tapes released showing the brutality of what goes on in these places and all of it is specifically forbidden by the contract we signed fifty eight years ago.

If you don't believe me read it yourself: http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu 3/b/91.htm . The wording is very specific about who is forbidden to do what; and we
