Just for a minute, close your eyes, and think of the most wonderful place in the world! When I close my eyes, I see Fenway Park! I can smell the Fenway Franks, hear the cheers of the fans, and hear the crack of David Ortiz' bat!
From the age of thirteen, I have been a Red Sox Fan! I was certain that I would become the first female player for the Sox! A girl can dream, can't she? I can remember the "Rocket" BEFORE he became a traitor and dressed in pinstripes! I used run down the long driveway which led to my grandfathers farm, to watch the Sox play! My grandfather used to laugh because of my enthusiasm for the game! I'd yell(and still do to this day)at the T.V when things weren't going the way I wanted them to! And yes, I remember Billy Buckner!
I had to wait until I was 32 years old to see the most beautiful baseball park in the country! And I can remember, with tears in my eyes, as if it were yesterday! I saw the sign that read "Yawkee Way" and my heart skipped a beat! I handed my ticket to the man at the gate, and entered into paradise! I walked over to the seats, and looked out over that field! That field was pure magic, yes, magic! And the first player that I saw hustle across that grass, was Jason Varitek, the Captain himself! I cried then, as I cry now, at the recollection of that very moment!
When I think of the Boston Red Sox, I think of a group of guys who make magic on a daily basis! You never know when they're gonna surprise you! And even disappoint you! But no matter what they do, I love them!
Over the years, being a Red Sox Fan hasn't always been the easiest! We've gotten a lot of * from those other fans! You know! The ones from New York! But, getting to see them beat the Yankees, in the Bronx no doubt, on Mickey Mantels birthday, to win the ALCS, was worth the wait! And of course...The World Series!
To be a Red Sox Fan is to believe, with all your heart, in the impossible! Your heart and soul could never be true to any other team! Yes, you can have respect for another team, but never truly LOVE them as you do the boys from Beantown! Until my last breath, I will love my Sox! And I thank them, from the bottom of my heart, for the blood and sweat that they have given all of "Red Sox Nation"!
May this passion that I share for my team, be passed on for many generations to come! I can say without doubt, that when I'm gone from this world, and my children see the Red Sox, that I will be in their thoughts! And that my friends, is what it is like to be a Boston Red Sox Fan! We're the best in the country ya know!
