With the price of gas in Ontario averaging 92-95 cents a liter and insurance costing an average of 200-300 dollars a month I am currently saving about 5000.00 dollars a year. I haven't even brought up maintenance costs or the cost of parking. I guess I could talk about what driving does for the environment too, but then you'd probably stop reading this article.
I will admit though that I wish at times that I had a car, especially when I am waiting for a cab or riding on a bus full of screaming children. Overall though the pros of not driving heavily outweigh the cons. Sometimes people ask me how I manage without a vehicle, especially since I have four children. Well, all amenities are close to where we live including schools, church, malls, and the hospital. There are plenty of things to do here in Simcoe, Ont. and many of them are only a short walk away.
Most people who drive will probably read this article and think my reasons are not good enough to convince them to sell their cars or start walking to work. Really I don't blame them. Trying to lose a few pounds though or save a few bucks? Ditching that car in favor of a bike is a good way to start. Still not convinced? Chew on this then: Every year for the last ten years road rage has become more rampant and more and more people are getting killed. MURDERED! That's reason enough for me, thank you
