I think that arranged marriages are outdated. I work for an Indian lawfirm that practices divorce. Almost every single divorce client that walks in that door is an arranged marriage. They complain about the same thing. They had an arranged marriage. They met two weeks before the day they got married. They spoke on the phone a couple of times. When they got married he/she began getting distant from his/her spouse. Alot of times I have a husband come in the office and complain of his wife that once they got married she would constantly scream at him and disrespect him. The wife's family was constantly demanding more dowry, etc.

I think that arranged marriages should stop. Why spend so much money on a beautiful wedding with so many people and gifts just to throw it all away a couple of months down the road and spend even more thousands and thousands on a divorce. Worst of all, what if there are children involved. The children are the ones that suffer the most.

Divorce is not a nice picture especially if there are children, money and property involved. I think we should be allowed to marry whom we chose, not whom our parents pick out for us. Then if the person we chose is not the one we want to be with then at least you spent a couple of years of your life with someone you actually loved not someone you disliked from the moment they were picked for you.
