There seems to be a stillness in the early morning air that let's us know change is near. The tree's are starting to go to sleep and the squirrels are busy burying their nuts for the coming winter. Certain smells arouse the senses and make you reflect on fall's of the past. Like the ones you had as a small child when you use to play in the leaves and enjoyed the vibrant colors that Autumn presented each year. The days are getting shorter and it is hard to stay awake as night comes quicker and stays longer. Something about the fall, just makes you want to sleep. Like the animals that sleep all winter long. We sense that change is near and prepare ourselves for the season.
The beautiful colors add an abstract collage to the lush Forest of our surroundings. The deer are more active and sense winter being near as they prepare for the rut. Everything and everyone prepares this time of year for the coming of winter. I seem to have more energy this time of year and coffee taste so much better on these cool mornings. The long nature walks down by the lakes edge give a new meaning to all is right with the world. The fish in the lake jump as if they are celebrating the coming of the new season and the insects become more dormant. Autumn is a spiritual event that shows us that change is necessary to all living things. A season that tells us it is time to harvest the crops and store our food for the coming winter. It is a time to give thanks for the bountiful abundance of grains and other materials that are essential to our every day lives.
Yes! It is my favorite season of the year where you can sleep with your windows up and pull that quilt a little further under your chin at night. It has always seemed to be the less stressful time of year to me. The farmers are putting in their harvest of corn, wheat, soybeans and cotton and all along the sides of the roads you will see the left overs of the process of harvest. The full moon looks brighter and the winds change more often and come frequently from the north. Another hot summer has past and we welcome Autumn and the refreshing breath of life it brings. Events of the fall give us the benefit of finding things to do with family and friends. It is a time of togetherness and structuring our families lives. School and colleges are in full swing and sports and other activities have taken precedence over the active parts of indoor life during the fall.
Autumn has once again made it's full circle journey and the season and all it stands for is just a small part of the circle of life. God designed the seasons to give us small breaks and subtle changes as we go from one season to another. It seems God wanted us to slow down our lives and enjoy the beauty and solitude of the Autumn season. We stand in awe with the turning of the leaves and the refreshing cool air that gently blows down from the north. A reminder of time. Just like a clock it tells us the time and keeps us on course and in touch with where we are in any season.
