First off...isn't there already a law saying that when you are 17; when you,re no longer a minor and almost an adult, you can have sex with whoever you want? So, what would be the purpose of this new law? Even if you set a national age to have sex, that won't stop teenagers from having sex, it will only encourage them because its a law. The way the world is today what we need to do is set good examples and show some dignity. Children are getting raped and molested everyday, teachers are being sexual with their students, teenagers and even children are getting pregnant! I'm a teenager and I turn on the TV and go from hearing about a child raped on the news to watching The O.C and other shows based around teenage sex and right now I'm thinking, "Why aren't parents, political figures, every adult realizing that all this crap on TV only encourages underage sex and rape?". There are creepy people out there! A lot of them! We all know that the Internet isn't safe, even going out shopping isn't that safe, because there are creepy people everywhere. Murderers are everywhere. A law like this won't change what people do; it will only encourage more destructive behavior. Kids seeing other kids and teenagers having sex on television makes them think that it's OK. Further, if they see a celebrity telling them one thing and doing another, they aren't going to even listen. The Federal Government enforcing a law about a "national age for sexual consent for teens" will only lower the standard and push the responsibility for managing kids onto the government. That responsibility belongs with the parents and they shouldn't push the problem away from them and make a useless law, they should take care of the problem at home, where it starts. With them, at home, on the television, in movies, in books, magazines and on the Internet. Parents need to demonstrate for their kids, how to live their life. People on television shouldn't make shows encouraging kids to do what they know is wrong. They are trading in the future and the safety and dignity of themselves and their kids, and your kids, for money that they make off of these stupid shows. Parents need to stop it. A new law won't do anything. We need to stand up and act! This is a growing problem that everyone can see but no one does anything about. I'm not gonna listen to someone who teaches Hippocracey about underage sex. What is "underage sex"? If we can't enforce the law we have now, why add a new one? How can we now classify
