Once you start writing your music, get your band together or get a good set of songs to perform you need fans to support you. Getting gigs at local venues is one way of doing this. Without fans your music won't be heard. At first friends and family might be your greatest fans coming to all your gigs and buying your first tunes or new album. But who else is going to like your music? There's so many singers, bands and songwriters who write and sing in different styles. It doesn't really matter what types of songs you sing, even if some don't like them, if you find your fans you'll always be popular. You can build a fan base by getting fans to sign up and join your fan club then you can send them text messages and emails about your next releases or upcoming events. Getting a website and uploading your songs can help in this. Music networking sites are great for building popularity and help to get your music heard. Offering free downloads and streaming radio on your sites give listeners a chance to listen to your music whenever you want. And there are a lot of websites where you can do this without even any knowledge of building websites, plus they have their own music licenses allowing you to play your music, keep your copyrights and even make money selling mp3's. Getting radio play is another good way of building a fan base. Local radio stations can play your tunes and reach a large audience. Even small adverts and commercials playing a couple of seconds of your music and giving your website details can get you new fans and listeners. As you get more popular you'll find you don't have to do so much hard work promoting yourself and new fans will come to listen to you perform and play and buy your albums just because they know and love you. As your fan base grows you'll be more and more in demand. Making videos so fans can see your performances is a great idea as well and having your own style will attract similar minded music lovers. Like this you'll find that you have fans who love your music that you didn't even know about and as your popularity grows the word will start being passed around. It's almost like automatic networking as they'll share your music with others and before you know it you could be a star.
