I'm a Delta skymiles member and I have actually only ever flown Delta. It always turned out that they offered the lowest fare for my destination, which speaks to their comparable pricing against other, so called 'bargain' airlines. I had a very enjoyable flight on Delta from my home city to my destination. Everything went smoothly from take off to landing. I couldn't have asked for better arrangements and I was quite pleased with the level of service and professionalism of the ground and flight crews.
The return flight was an entirely different matter. Everything went wrong from the moment I boarded the plane. We taxied out for take off and after much waiting had to return to the gate for a mechanical malfunction. The mechanics were out to lunch when we returned to the gate so we waited quite awhile for their return. They finally boarded the plane and made some adjustments and the pilot declared the flight ready for take off once again. We spent a considerable amount of time on the runway a second time before being informed there was another mechanical problem with the right engine. It was back to the gate, which quite honestly suited me fine. I had little desire to fly in a plane with back to back mechanical problems. It felt as if we were tempting fate and I'm really not a fan of that.
The airline decided that we should disembark and catch other flights to Atlanta. By this time it was more than four hours after our scheduled take off time and I should have been landing at my destination. Yet here I was just taking off. Frustrating, to say the least. I wish I could say things got better from here but they didn't.
We arrived in Atlanta, well, we circled over it for an extended period of time. Long enough to run low on fuel which necessitated a side-trip to Columbia to refuel. That took forever between the landing, waiting in line for a turn to fuel up, and taking off again. We headed back to Atlanta with no guarantee that we would be able to land when we arrived there for a second time. We did finally land in Atlanta at 6:30pm which was a full six hours later than we were scheduled to. We were told to read the flight monitor and find the next available flight to our destination city and go directly there to board. My flight to Philadelphia was leaving at 7:00pm! That left me barely half an hour to get to that gate or I'd miss the flight. I was tired, annoyed, and aggravated beyond belief but I was determined to make that flight. I was not in a good
