HOW TO KEEP EMPLOYEES MOTIVATED AND HAPPY FROM A to Z
Employees are the backbone of any business, corporation, institution
or enterprise. When employees are motivated and kept happy, employers
reap the benefits, and in turn, are made happy. There are many strategies
which employers use today. Having been on the employee side of the fence
all of my life, here are just a few things which I discovered made my
coworkers and I motivated and happy. I feel these suggestions will make
for a better and more productive workplace:
a. Keep employees abreast of information pertaining to their jobs. Make
sure the information is clearly understood and allow for questions.
Provide employees with clear rules and guidelines for executing their
work. Also be clear on how violations will be handled.
b. Allow employees to have input. Utilize worthwhile input to construct
innovations within the company or organization.
c. Reward each employee fairly monetarily by paying adequate wages.
d. Do not gossip about or relay the personal affairs of one employee to
another. Confront employees who cause dissension by such practices.
e. Seek to create a family type in house structure. Make each worker feel
that he/she is valuable to the business and its success.
f. Give adequate praise and rewards for a job well done.
g. Plan for employees and their families to have occasions together at least
twice a year. (holidays or picnics)
h. Keep the workplace as clean, neat, and organized as possible.
i. Give annual bonuses, whether large or small.
j. Deal with confrontational issues immediately and seek to resolve problems
as soon as possible.
k. Treat employees with respect. Speak to each employee as you have opportunity
and call each by name.
l. Seek to create a non-threatening atmosphere, however, one having high
expectations.
m. Make the workplace as comfortable as possible. Provide those tools which
will help employees do their best.
n. Respond as soon as possible to the concerns of any employee. Do not keep
an employee waiting long, or ignore issues.
o. Post pictures of employees in the locker room, on bulletin boards, or places
where the workers eat or take breaks.
p. Have twice a year reviews with each employee to give feedback on the quality
of work being done and offer suggestions on how to improve.
q. Allow employees to vent without fear of being fired.
r. Take the entire staff out to dinner once or twice a year.
s. When a worker is ill over a long period of time, provide support and financial
support as necessary. Also celebrate all birthdays and anniversaries.
t. Do not show favoritism to anyone or group. Avoid discrimination of any kind.
u. Seek to provide avenues of advancement or promotion within your company.
v. Hold regular meetings with your staff or group of workers, whether weekly,
bi-monthly, or monthly. Let workers know ahead of time these dates.
w. Seek opportunities to give your workers publicity through the local news
media or in newspapers.
x. Offer training or retraining programs to workers who need it in order to
upgrade their skills.
y. Keep updated employee files with notations. Have each file available upon
request.
z. Love your employees as God loves you. If all feel loved, they will work
hard to give you the success you desire.
