Creating a free web site is a very simple task. You do not need to be computer savvy or smart to set up a free website. While being computer savvy may help you find and take advantage of the best free web hosting deals, it is not necessary for getting a professional site up and running in one day.
If you do not know how to use HTML or HTML editors, you will need to find a free web hosting website that gives you access to some kind of online web page creator. While these sites do not offer the best features compared to other free hosting companies, they are still very good options:
www.freewebs.com - features include 40 MB of space, a web page creator, and a forum creator tool. The catch: it has a 100 file limit.
geocities.yahoo.com - features include 15 MB of space, a web page creator, and a blogging tool. The catch: You get ads on your pages.
In order to take advantage of free hosting sites that offer better features, you need to know how to use HTML or an HTML editor. You can download a decent free editor, called "Nvu" at www.nvudev.com. One you create your website with HTML or an HTML editor, you will need to upload your files to your website.
To find the best free hosting sites, check out www.free-webhosts.com. Free-webhosts.com is a very large free web hosting directory that lists over 300 free hosting companies. On their website, you can search for a free hosting company that offers the features you want, like gigabytes of space, no ads, and lots of free site add-ons. Many of the sites they list, however, do not offer web page creators, so you will need to know how to use HTML or an HTML editor in order to use them.
As an alternative to creating a website, you could set up your own blog. A Blog can sometimes be a better choice than a web site if you just want to use it to keep in touch with friends or write about a specific subject. Blogs are very easy to set up and maintain. Here are a few of the best blogging websites:
www.blogger.com - run by Google
www.thoughts.com
www.wordpress.com
Once you sign up for a free website or blog, you will be able to share your thoughts and ideas to many people around the world, influence the lives of others, and keep in touch with friends and family. Since you can do all of this without being computer savvy, and since having your own website is such a powerful tool, you should take advantage of the benefits of creating your own website.
