Over one million Europeans moved to the UK in the last three years, this does not include all of the immigrants who have moved here illegally, it also does not include the numbers of immigrants who come from other parts of the world. 460,780 of the Europeans that came to England came from Poland.
Even allowing for people who are leaving the country, which is becoming quite popular, as a country we still need to build 200 houses every day for the next 20 years for immigrants (if the current trend persists). Some police forces have recently needed the use of interpreters for 100 languages to deal with the foreign nationals involved in incidents.
The Polish immigrant workers alone are estimated to have sent home over 1 billion in the first the three months of 2007 they were also blamed for the shortage of 50 pound notes in the economy. It is estimated that the number of Polish people who entered in last three years is the equivalent to the population of Liverpool. Effectively including the illegal immigrants and the immigrants from the rest of the world. A rough equation would be that every year the population of the UK increases by one major city.
The British government claimed but no more than 13,000 immigrants would come here from the former Eastern bloc. But it's not just the former East bloc, people seem to be coming from just about every country in Europe, from Malta to Portugal, from Italy to Belgium .
Companies across the UK are making use of this labour force. The immigrants are seen as a very cheap labour force sighting that the work just as well as British people do, if not better.
What these figures do not show is that the immigrants are willing to work for less money than a British people. Recently a man I knew, a welder, was offered a job welding on the docks of Newcastle. On a Friday he got a phone call to say that he was not going to start on the Monday as a some immigrants had come along and said that they would do the work for less than a minimum wage. There is definitely an underlying problem because if an employer breaks the law regarding minimum wage with a British person, the British person knows his rights. However many of these immigrants do not know their rights and therefore are being taken advantage of by unscrupulous employers .
