PRIZES

Prizes range considerably and here it is interesting that artists are helping newcomers to get the limelight. Artists such as John Legend and Curt Smith are giving one to one mentor sessions as prizes and there are a number of prizes that give wonderful incentives to join in, even if not amongst the monthly money winners. The site does seem to have every eventuality covered and if the most you walk away with is a T shirt that said you participated, at least you got something for your efforts and managed to upload your music or film to a website, giving you a good idea of what the competition is all about in a fast growing climate.

WINNERS

The quality of the work uploaded is astounding. Going back through the competitions, you are able to listen to the winners and it really does show that even the amateur can produce quality. For the August competition in acoustic music, a haunting melody called Error of Day, by Ezra Thomas fills the top spot with a song that lives up to professionalism at it's best. Here, the public has the opportunity to listen to and watch new artists that have uploaded their work and who have won, based on the rounds that make up to that final moment of victory. If you want to go further in supporting new artists, the option to buy that one track is there, and at as little as 99 cents really does make sense, since the compilations of new artists that you are able to build up through the site is a great way of supporting new artists and extending your range of media.

OVERALL

Sites like this should be encouraged. The quality of the entries really is professional and it isn't just wannabees that aren't taking the whole process seriously. There are some serious artists with great work that would otherwise go unrecognized. When rating this morning, I found that the quality was exceptional and that the choices were very difficult to make. It's a site full of inspiration, where artists are still at that raw stage of enthusiasm that many professional artists lose with success, and this to me is where the site wins hands down against others, in that members all play a part in deciding the fate of those musicians and artists that had the courage to upload their work, reaching for the clouds, and sometimes achieving it.

Anyone can vote and if you are a music lover, then the site offers different genres of work ranging from acoustic right through to heavy punk music, and in the film area from animation right through to action, music, wacky and weird. Again, the quality is very high. The timing is just about right on voting, and does not let you vote before listening to at least part of what is presented, taking away the click factor, and making the competition serious.

In an age of technology, the site offers opportunity to the little man to become recognized for the quality of their work. This really cannot be a bad thing, and even if you are not an artist, the pleasure the site gives you in knowing you took the time to listen and judge means that even the audience participate in the success of those that tried their hand in the entertainment field.
