Cleaning brass and copper without chemicals

If the laminate is in good order, just wipe it over with a damp cloth and polish with a dry one. If the laminate is patchy, remove it.

To remove dodgy laminate use an acetone based thinner or paint remover. Depending on the thickness plain old nail polish remover could well do the job. Rinse immediately with fresh, clean water and dry with a soft cloth.

For really knocked about pieces some wet and dry sandpaper in a very, very fine grade can help bring back the luster that was originally intended. Use lots of water with a bit of detergent added (just a few drops to a cup) and rub very lightly so as not to scratch the metal and leave any grooves. Once again, when finished, rinse with clean, fresh water and buff with a soft cloth.
