Building bulk muscle is very different than bulking up. There is bulking up by building bulk muscle and there is bulking up by simply bulking up. Remember, you're bulking muscle and not simply bulking your body up. When you're building up bulk muscle, you're building up the muscles on your body. You're not necessarily just bulking up and so forth. This may sound confusing at first, but this is pretty simple.
When building bulk muscle, you have to combine weight training with eating the right foods. Meaning, building bulk muscle doesn't mean you can go eating whatever you want. That's not how it works. If you go out eating whatever you want, then you end up gaining fat instead of the necessary muscle. One can say that muscle is heavier than fat. But that isn't the case. Muscle and fat just weigh the same thing. Big difference is that muscle is more dense than fat. Meaning, you're looking for a hard body instead of a soft body.
You're going to need your proteins, amino acids, macronutrients, micronutrients, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and so forth. Amino acids help heal and repair the micro-tears in your muscles as a result of your strength training. You're going to have to balance out the different types of foods to balance out everything. Beware of junk food and fast food.
Carbohydrates helps keep you full for when you work out. Good examples would your pastas, rice, breads, bagels, potatoes, and oats. It's very important to have carbohydrates in your regular diet. Eat stuff that tends to be whole wheat. At the same time, you'll get plenty of fiber which is necessary as well.
Proteins are instant energy. You need proteins to help build muscles. Stick to fish, poultry, and lean meats. Lay off the red meat when building up bulk muscle. When building bulk muscle, eat stuff like: chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, and fish. Be careful with the types of cheeses. Stick with cottage cheese. When preparing eggs, buy the egg whites; as the yokes tend to be pretty fattening.
You can eat peanut butter as it will act as a good fat. Flax seed oil is one of the important fats as well. UFC fighter Rich Franklin does consume a good amount of flax seed oil in his diet. He said that it's pretty good energy for the long days of training.
Be sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Eat your oranges, apples, pears, bananas, carrots, cabbage, celery, and so forth. Drink as much water, juice, and tea when you can. Don't rely on the sports drinks that much as their main function is to help you retain water. If you profusely sweat, then it's also a good idea to drink stuff like Gatorade. Neglecting your water intake affects how you can build up bulk muscle.
You have to have a proper balance of foods at the same time go through weight training. However, do not neglect your cardio-respiratory training as it is also essential to building up that necessary bulk muscle.
Remember to lay off the junk food. Avoid the fried foods as it will only give you fat instead of bulk muscle. It's all right to be eating brownies, cookies, burgers, pizzas, and so forth every one in a while. I place a huge amount of emphasis on once in awhile. Stick to your pastas, breads, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and so forth. Avoid the soda, sweets, and junk food.
