Because your vehicle is one of the largest investments you'll make, other than your home, you should do everything you can to maximize the value when you are ready to trade it in or sell it. Just as you clean up your house so it has great "curb appeal" when you want to sell it, you should also spend some time, effort and money on your vehicle to create a great "first impression" on the appraiser.

If you really want to get the best value, you will take the time to clean up your vehicle so it has sparkle and shine. Nothing is more impressive than a super clean vehicle that smells great. Whether you choose to do it yourself or take it to a reputable detailer, it needs to have a thorough cleaning, polishing and detailing job from top to bottom and from the inside to the outside. Don't forget to include cleaning the engine and the wheel wells.

Also, remove all your personal belongings from anywhere and everywhere in the vehicle. Don't forget the glove box, trunk and under the seats. "Clutter-free" is the look that needs to be achieved.

If there are minor repairs that need to be fixed, take care of them before having the car appraised for the trade in. Knowing that they won't have to put money into cleaning up or making repairs will be very favorable in the eyes of the dealership and they will be more likely to give you a much higher trade-in value.

Do your homework and know what the KBB trade-in value is on your car before ever stepping foot inside the dealership. Having knowledge is a very valuable tool in the negotiation process.

If you just take a little time and put forth a little effort, you can get the best value when trading in your vehicle.
