best, with as much to do off the slopes as there is off. Take a run down the slopes of one of their four parks, and then enjoy a night out at the casino, or head off to one of the area's fun filled bars and nightclubs.

For busy families traveling to Northern California, try Mammoth Mountain with its family friendly atmosphere, or one of the resorts in Yosemite, including the aforementioned Bear Valley. Mammoth Mountain is an excellent choice for families, with a small town and welcoming feel. Better yet, kids ten and under ski free. Sticking to lesser known or smaller resorts can be a great experience for the whole family, without fighting in lines all day.

For travelers hoping for a quieter ski destination in Northern California, try one of the many State Parks in the area. Burton Creek State Park is only two miles east of Tahoe City, and has 36 miles of cross-country skiing area. Calaveras Big Tree State Park offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, along with downhill skiing and snowmobiling at the Bear Valley Ski Resort. Grove Hot Springs State Park, located near Lake Tahoe has cross country skiing, and a spring-water pool. Or try the Plumas-Eureka State Park, which has cross country and downhill skiing. Though they only have one trail, there are tons of opportunities for more experienced skiers to explore on their own.

Skiing in Northern California can be a great experience. There are resorts, State Parks, and dozens of trails to entice all levels of skiers, and enough activities to impress even the most devoted of ski enthusiasts.
