Making craft projects from recycled goods

Making craft products from recycled goods is environmentally friendly as well as inexpensive and, it requires only a good imagination. No matter what your favorite craft is, you can find ways to use many items we daily throw in the trash. It's also fun to think of and create new uses for recycled goods. Try these ideas or think up your own.

OLD COMPUTERS

1-Make a robot from the various components or make a techno-geek mobile.


2-Make jewelry from the chips and wires.
3-Turn the motherboard into a map of a large city by detail painting and framing.
4-Use one of the boards for a clock face.

SKATEBOARDS

1-Use the wooden part of a skateboard for the top of a table or the back of a child's chair.
2-Attach brackets to the bottom of a skateboard and attach to wall for a boy's room shelf.

OLD BOOKS

1-Glue the books together in a stacked position and attach two "L" brackets to the bottom. Attach to the wall for a unique shelf.
2-Glue stacked books together for legs. Glue Pages from an atlas to ply board and create a table or desk.
3-Hollow out a book and use for storing unsightly remote controls.
4-Use book covers for freestanding double picture frames, just glue on pictures and mats.

PAPER

4-For a child's gift, wrap in colored funnies and tie with bright red ribbons.
5-Scrap booking is a good craft for recycling papers of all kind.

SOCKS

1-Great gift idea, fill with rice, tie and warm in microwave for feet and hand warmers.
2-Socks make cute puppets, use yarn for hair and buttons for eyes.
3-Fill with other old socks or sand and use at doors as a draft stopper.
4-Cut cross-ways to produce loops which can be woven into pot holders.

FABRICS

1-Make a braided rug by braiding strips of fabric and then sewing them into an oval.
2-Make a patchwork quilt by sewing pieces together, add batting and backing and quilt..
3-Make soft, stuffed animals for your children.
4-Leather gloves can be used for doll shoes and clothes, puppets and inside pot holders.

BUTTONS

1-Sew on cushions for an added punch of color.
2-Glue on picture frames or lampshades.
3-Make into jewelry.
4-Use unique buttons to decorate shoes, hats, clothes and keepsake boxes.
