Us coffee drinkers, oh my. Some of us can drink it all day long while some just a cup of two a day will do. Some drink to wake up while some to relax, some to warm up on a cold night or day and some just to drink. Oh that delectable cup of Java that we love so much, has so many other uses throughout our lives. So before we go tossing that left over grind out, lets focus on more uses for it. I am sure there are many gardeners with gardening problems needing solved, those needing answers and those that seem to know it all. I am one of the later so let us begin.
How to reuse coffee that has already been brewed in your garden, oh those blessed coffee grounds. I start my day off with a good strong cup of coffee. After I am done in the hot summer months I take my grounds to the yard. I sprinkle them all around my home to keep ants away. Those pesky critters can bite like the dickens and this keeps them away. I just sprinkle about once every two to three weeks around all of my windows and I never see an ant. Its a good deterrent of other animals as well.
Another use is to make a good potting soil. Just mix sand, clay, Epsom salt and coffee ground with our famous eggshells and you will have a great container soil for your plants.
While some believe that these are just old folk tales what can you lose to try. Go on it is fabulous and you will love the results.
a mixture of dried leaves, coffee grounds and boiling water will make a grand mix for your shrubs while the same mixture without the water will make a good mulch. Try putting coffee grounds around your veggies, gardenias and any other acidic plant for food as well. While you all try new things it still all depends on what you start working with as well. So make sure you are starting with great things to end up with them as well. Have fun using your coffee grounds and Ants away.
