Poetry: The rodeo

Blitz was a young bull never before been tried,
But he was a mean son of a gun so they thought they'd ride his hide.
Young cowboy called Cal drew up his name that day
And he lowered himself 'pon Blitz' back as the band began to play.
His hand was wrapped, his chaps were on, he was ready for that ride,
But Blitz pitched back 'n forth and young Cal began to slide.

Cal bumped his legs, banged his arms, this all happened in the chute,
Just imagin' the damage could be done when they released that onery brute.
Well, the gate swung wide, the seconds began to tick
As Blitz humped, twisted, turned, let out an enormous kick.
Now Cal was hangin' on doin' his utmost best,
When Blitz tossed him high in the air, then trampled 'pon his vest.
Cal was stunned, not truly hurt, was helped out of harm's way,
But that big bull wasn't 'bout to stop 'til he'd had his first big day.
Most bulls right then will settle down and trot off towards the hay,
But Blitz stood lookin' mightily confused 'mongst the din 'n fray.
He huffed and snorted, then charged the nearest fence,
Sent a bunch of young 'uns scatterin', all in self-defense.
A cowboy tried to rope and lead 'im, now that was a big mistake,
Blitz ripped that cowboy off his mount, leavin' us all to stand 'n quake.
Blitz then began a blowin' and lowered his massive head,
Had his eye on that clown to the left, causin' all the fans to dread.
Blitz came a chargin', the clown tumbled to the right
As the crowd barely breathed as they pondered a terrible plight.
At this point officials started worryin', no solution seemed in sight,
How do we get that bull where he needs to be so rodeo can continue into night.
They let a few old bulls out, hopin' Blitz would follow them home,
Blitz wouldn't have any of it, stood in the arena still as stone.
Then somethin' caught Blitz' attention, way down at the other end,
Seems someone had draped a flag 'cross the outlet gate, billowin' and glowin' red.
Blitz gave a snort, pawed the ground, galloped off at a furious pace,
Nothin' more to be said or done and most folks just covered their face.
At just the right moment, the gate swung open wide,
Blitz thundered right on through, rippin' off some precious hide.
Now fans were hoopin' 'n hollerin', lookin' forward to the evenin' feast,
But it had been a young cowboy, 'bout 9 or 10, who'd captured the ferocious beast.
You see, it had been his idea to hang that flag in the swelterin' summer heat,
I'd say his plan worked downright well 'cause that bull was handsdown beat.
Now sometimes God uses the humble to outwit the righteous and strong,
And we adults have to admit there are times when we're just dead wrong.
A number of years passed before that kid began to ride,
Well, well, guess which bull he drew as he prepared himself with pride.
