Dakota. A good BEA can make over $100,000 a year depending on the state he or she lives in, and the amount of dedication one has. You will be working for yourself, so the amount of work you have will be completely up to you. Also, some states have outlawed commercial bail (like Oregon) so there are no Bail Recovery Agents. Don't expect to make $50,000 the first year. Many people start part time while keeping a 9-5 job.
2)DO BEAs CARRY GUNS / DO THEY SHOOT PEOPLE?
BEAs generally carry guns. Washington State, for example, requires that BEAs qualify on each firearm they use in the field, so an agentwould have to complete separate qualifications for a revolver, a semi-auto pistol, and a 12-gauge shotgun. Each of these items is useful at different times. BEAs can carry the revolver when in "undercover" clothes, and no one knows they are working. BEAs also carry pistol sidearms when in full duty gear, and they may take a shotgun with them when they have to go to very rural locations. It's a better option if they run into difficult people with dogs, and the like. BEAs find that they don't even have to point the shotgun at people they may come into contact with. When the disagreeable people see that you have a shotgun ready, they are much less likely to "turn the dogs on you".
BEAs also carry at varying times, a TASER, a stun baton, pepper spray, and an expandable police baton. Each weapon is available, and used, when necessary. Each item has its place and usefulness. You just have to know what's what.
I invite your questions about the business of bail enforcement (bounty hunting). In keeping with the standards of this website, you can find my email address in the personal profile section.
