EVERY dog is potentially dangerous. No one breed is any more dangerous than the next-and I say this after having met plenty of pit bulls, Rottweilers, owning a Doberman, and snuggling with my in-laws' Labrador. I have met plenty of dogs, many of them from the so-called "bully breeds"; I have only ever been attacked by a Labrador and a Border Collie. None of them have actually hurt me, but I think that's just because I'm not inherently afraid of dogs and will stare one down, and am willing to beat the daylights out of it if I have to.
The dangers of pit bulls and Dobermans and German Shephers are grossly exaggerated. The dangers of idiots owning such dogs cannot be exaggerated enough.
A dog is a dog is a dog is a dog. A pit bull, given a good owner who takes steps to socialize the dog and train it well, will be as gentle as a lamb. A golden retriever, given an abusive home with an idiot who doesn't know to socialize the dog, will be as dangerous as the worst pit bull. It doesn't matter what breed the dog is-if it's owned by an idiot, it's a dangerous dog.
There are no dangerous dog breeds, only dangerous dog owners. The worst offenders, in my book, are as follows:
1) Idiots who own dogs for fighting - the dogs are bullied and abused until they become dangerously aggressive
2) Idiots who own dogs for breeding - we are not talking about certified breeders who know the bloodlines of their dogs, and who make sure to source every potential puppy before breeding. We are talking about people who think, "Hey, I can get $500 for the puppies!" and decide to breed their dog. People like this all too often do not take the health of the dog into consideration, nor do they know enough about puppies to realize how much time and energy it takes to properly socialize a puppy and train them so that they do not become dangerous
3) Idiots who own dogs they really shouldn't own - whether it's a dog they don't have time for, or a dog they can't afford to feed properly, or a dog they don't know how to care for, idiots who don't do their research before getting dogs don't deserve to have one. Dogs need a certain amount of interaction to maintain their socialization. Feeding a proper diet is part of this interaction-a dog food based mostly on sawdust means that the owner is going to resent cleaning up the 8-10 cups of poop the dog poops, and will eventually resent the dog. Resenting the dog is not a good way to love your dog.
Idiots should not own dogs.
