For the traveler that craves action, and needs to constantly move and keep busy, vacationing during the winter can be a great idea. There are hundreds of resorts offering everything under the sun from skiing and snowboarding, to heated swimming pools and rock climbing.
Consider Jackson Hole, Wyoming voted the best ski town in America by Skiing magazine in 2004. If there's something a busy traveler hopes to do, they can find it in this town. Jackson Hole has everything; spas, skiing, snowboarding, shopping, restaurants, and a whole lot more.
Jackson Hole is home to over 30 art galleries, a great nightlife, and museums to keep the active traveler satisfied inside, but the outdoors is where all the action is. For something different, try a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge, or a dog sled ride. You can even see a bighorn sheep herd, or soak in the natural hot springs. Outdoor lovers can also take advantage of the local snowmobile companies. And the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Winter Naturalist Program hosts a Snowshoe Tour, which takes guests through the woods to talk about local environmental issues.
For active travelers, the skiing in Jackson Hole can't be beat. The city has the longest continual vertical rise in the country, and a tram that carries passengers from the top of the mountain to the bottom in just 12 minutes. The best part is that the mountains are rarely crowded, and the skiers are often spaced out along the mountain. For travelers new to the world of skiing, try the Jackson Hole Mountain Sports School, which offers classes in every skill level, and has a beginners only lift from the resort to the school.
Jackson Hole has tons of lodging options for every type of traveler; the Four Seasons for upscale travelers, with complimentary smores and hot chocolate every night, and The Wort Hotel with the S-Shaped Silver Dollar Bar with over 2,000 silver dollars embedded in the bar.
For the active traveler who craves excitement and tons of things to do, there's no better winter getaway than Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
