Readers share their favorite novels

I have many favorite novels, including "Tales of Christmas" by Writers Across Canada Online, but I would have to say my all time favorite is "The Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck. We had to read this book in high school, oh so many years ago. I always hated when the teacher gave us reading assignments, as I was never interested in what we had to read, but this book changed all that. I found it a riveting read, and thoroughly enjoyable.

The Good Earth is set in China, in the 1920s, and tells the story of Wang Lung, a hard working, yet poor Chinese farmer who marries a slave, O-lan from the rich house. O-lan is Wang Lung's best asset, bearing him sons, and working side by side with him morning to night in the crops, never ever complaining.

I don't want to say too much about the story, as to give away anything for anybody that would like to read this book. I will say though, I have been responsible for many people reading this Pulitzer Prize winning novel from listening to me rave on about it. Including my sister, who is not one to read anything other than the odd magazine! I would suggest everyone read this wonderfully written book, especially to the teenagers out there that think they are hard done by. It will definitely give you a different outlook on just how easy our lives are now.
