Nutritious lunch box ideas

With the children in full swing of the school year, the typical sandwich and snack meal is starting to create boredom at mealtime. What can you do to make lunch time nutritional and fun? Is there anything better than a sandwich for your child to take for a meal?

No more peanut butter, the allergy risks are just too harsh for many students. So the typical pb & j sandwich is out of the question as most schools are peanut free. So, your child has been taking ham n cheese each day for lunch since school began the first of September. Things are getting boring and is a ham n cheese sandwich really healthy every day of the week?

Snack-time, many school's today do not provide snacks so this is up to you to purchase and send as well as your lunch. Puddings, fruit snacks and cookies are common snack foods sent with children to school. Isn't there something we can send that would be more creative? What about lunch-time?

Let your child have a choice of what to take, often children take 2 snacks. One for recess and one to go with lunch so have a rule of something healthy and something for a treat. Such choices may include a fruit cup paired up with a couple cookies or a chocolate pudding.

Try a veggie plate with dip and a tuna wrap. Pita pockets can be filled with donair meat to make a mini donair, or chicken/tuna salad to make a pocket sandwich. Try mini pizza's by packing some cheese slices, some ketchup or pizza sauce, sandwich meats and triscuts or another cracker/bread of choice. It's not hard to be creative and healthy at the same time. You just need to keep a balance of the different foods that your child is taking,
