If the liberals are to liberate the conservatives then they have to play by the rules of the constitution. Of all the rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness trump all other rights that may seem contradictory. The liberals may sound like they have a fair argument by arguing "Free speech", but let's see what is really going on, shall we. The conservatives argue that in order for the "Fairness doctrine" to be implemented, that conservatives would HAVE to allow liberals equal air-time on their conservative programs. The liberals would have my vote on this one, if the issue was that the FCC is denying them air time to create their own programs, but it would appear the liberals are trying to leech off the already conservative established programs.
If liberals are allowed to leech off the conservatives air-waves, then someone's rights are being violated. If anyone else the owner of each individual conservative program. If that individual is forced to lay down his liberty for the sake of fairness, then all our rights are in jeopardy. Are the liberals rights being violated by opposing the fairness doctrine, I would say not. If they want their voice to be heard, they have several other mediums to express them other then conservative programs. More power to the conservatives if they so choose to allow liberals on their programs for debates, but to legislatively require this to be the case amounts to tyranny in the subtlest form. The very thing the liberals are trying to liberate us from. Sorry guys, the means just doesn't justify the ends in this case. Score one point for the conservatives on this issue.
