It seems as if you are not in the "In Crowd" if you don't have your own web site or blog these days.....The internet has certainly come along way over the years, and now almost everyone has them. Sites are created for a variety of reasons; whether you are looking to just do some social networking, or promoting an online business, or yourself. There are increasingly more and more web hosting sites out there to choose from, but the simplest and easiest to use and learn for someone without a lot of web design or building experience is Blogger.com. One can easily create their own page or blog in an hour or two, and it is very easy to update the site once it is created.
Blogger is now affiliated with Google, so it is very easy to set up your account. One can easily use their Google id and password to create their page on Blogger. I find it is easier to remember all of your usernames and passwords for each site that you use if they are the same. Basically, in order to build a site on Blogger, it takes three easy steps:
1. Creating an account
2. Naming your blog
3. Choosing a template
On Blogger's main page, there is a quick tour feature for those who are unfamiliar with how it works, and how to do it. There are also a lot of tutorials which will help every step of the way.
After you have your basic information created and a template chosen, it is very simple to start uploading pictures, create blog posts and make contacts with other people. Blogger seems to favor sites geared towards self-promotion such as artists, photographers, and others in the arts. It is very easy to use the user interphase to post pictures of a portfolio of work, use Google Adsense to add targeted ads to your site and create more revenue, and post your blog journals, thoughts, experience and whatever you want.
While in the Blogger "Dashboard" or user interphase, one can edit their page by adding certain page elements, such as third party html codes which will give you banners to advertise what other sites you participate in, labels to organize your blog entries, rss feeds, lists, videos, and even newsreels. The possibilities are endless!
Another cool feature is that at the end of every blog entry, one can designate tag words for each entry, which enables search engines to easily find your information.
For those who have never had their own web site or cannot afford one, Blogger is a great host to use. It seems as if the more you use it, the more you learn about how web sites work, their make up, site feeds and creation, and the internet as a whole.
