A blog is an internet publication that is either hosed on a general domain by a blogging company (blogger.com, wordpress.com, etc) or it is hosted on a unique domain. Blogs can contain all sorts of information. Some people journal in their blogs, some companies write about products and updates in their blog, other business owners and entrepreneurs use blogs to post ads.
Blogs are usually a compilation of posts or articles that make up a website. Blogs provide content and often times they are accessible via search engines, they are a great way to get your information to an infinite number of internet users.
Blogging and e-commerce is a new and very powerful way to market your company or business, they key is to do it in a smart way.
Nothing is more annoying that going to a site (that you think is providing information you need) and being bombarded with advertisements or unrelated info. Successfully blogging for your business means providing relative information (to your target audience) that will help visitors, nicely feature your business and the services you provide.
Remember, any successful site serves a purpose for it's visitors, sites that only serve a purpose to the site owner are seldom successful. Don't think you can just create a blog or site and pack it full of links and advertisements for things, people don't care about ads.. Seldom do people search for pages that are packed full of ads, they want valuable information! Your site must appeal to and be interesting to people before it will help your business.
The most difficult part of blogging for business is conceptualizing the blogs purpose. What info will you provide that your target audience is interested in? How will this free information highlight and feature your business? How will you get people interested in your blog and it's content? Do you have the time and energy to commit to writing in your blog consistently?
I have a blog that serves my e-commerce site. My blogs title is "Harvest of Daily Life" it is a cross between a journal and a publication with articles. Sometimes I write about life, sometimes I write informative articles to inform my visitors. I reach people interested in living more simply and people who are more interested in enjoying the simple pleasures in life. One of my marketing ideas for my e-commerce site (www.craftedcustomgifts.com) was that gifts that come from the heart are more meaningful, I make custom gifts for people that are made to order. I also sell sentimental, not mass produced gifts.
My blogs theme interests my e-commerce site visitors so when I post an occasional product update article of my blog my readers are not annoyed and they find interest in what I am talking about. Also, my blog allows people to get to know me and it builds a personal relationship. When my regular readers are looking for a sentimental gift who do you think they will think of first? They will turn to a person or business that they relate to, trust and know something about.
Hopefully this example of my blog and e-commerce site will help you to understand how you can make your blog and e-commerce site related and beneficial to your visitors.
