How to remove animal hair from furniture

I have a dog and four cats so I know how annoying pet hair can be around the house. I have tried so many methods for removing the hair, some I like more than others. Successful pet hair removal really depends on the type of animals you have and the type of coat they have.

Damp sponge, mop or washcloth method
This method can be used to remove hair from rugs, furniture or clothes. All you need to do is dampen a sponge, mop or washcloth and wipe the hairy area. This will cause the hair to "ball up" or roll into clumps, it can then be picked off or vacuumed up.

Rubber method
This method can also be used to remove hair from just about anywhere. Things like rubber gloves, squeegees, rubber pet hair brushes etc. can be used This is also a great way to remove lint from clothes. Again all you need to do is rub the hairy surface with the rubber item, the hair will clump and roll up so you can easily remove it.

Cut static cling method
This method helps to stop static from keeping the hair on the surface you are trying to clean. You can buy a "static guard solution", spray water and fabric softener on to the surface, sprinkle baking soda on the hairy surface or you could even use a balloon to create some static electricity that will attract the hair to the balloon. Just rub a inflated balloon on the area to transfer the static & hair to the balloon.

Use a shop vac
When we recently moved we got a shop vac from a friend, this thing was huge and had a ton of suction power. We used our regular vacuum attachments and went to town on everything, the carpet, furniture, baseboards etc. The vacuum picked up everything quite well and we were pleased.

Grab those hairs
If you have an area that your pet gets particularly hairy try using an old plastic bristled hair brush to pick up all the hair. It really works and all you have to do is remove the clumps of hair from the brush and toss them out. I have also used this method on area rugs and small carpeted areas. You can also use the brush attachment on your vacuum to both comb and suck up pet hair and dirt. Velcro works well to grab hair and you can also use duct tape, packing tape or lint remover tape to grab the hairs from your furniture.

Again the type of hair/ fur your pet has will determine which of these remedies are successful but pick a few and try them out, you will be surprised at the results!
