Poetry: Autumn

GEMS OF AUTUMN

Crisp and fresh, these autumn days,
though the nights grow frosty cold
but there's wonder in this harvest time
as the autumn weeks unfold
in a display of radiant colors,
mauve, crimson and gold,
and the pumpkins in the fields are dressed
in their carnelian gowns.
Apple orchard boughs bend low
with rubies in their crowns;
so grand the gems of autumn
with blessings all around.

The fields are ripe with golden wheat,
raspberries are garnet red again,
mornings glitter with diamond dew
and trees sparkle in the rain.
The grapevines by the pasture gate
glitter with amethyst.
There's a harvest good and plentiful,
no better time than this,
autumn, the harvest season,
corn, potatoes, squash and beans;
abundantly the Lord has blest
the harvest time again
and my soul is lifted up in praise
as I take in this autumn scene.
The Earth is glowing, radiant
and I am glowing when
I'm walking with my Lord each day
among autumn's wondrous gems.
